Huddle Board

About Huddle Board

Huddle Board started on a real sideline, coaching 8U flag football. The coaches knew football; the hard part was explaining it to six seven-year-olds in the twenty seconds between plays. So the tool does not simplify the football. It simplifies the explaining.

What it is

One web page. It opens on an 11-inch tablet, works with no network at all, and installs to the home screen so it runs full screen. A coach builds a deck for the game, picks a play, and turns the tablet around.

Everything a coach sets up — the deck, renamed plays, saved weeks, drawn plays — stays on that tablet. There is no account and nothing is sent anywhere.

How the rules were made

Every rule in the app exists because breaking it made the tool worse for actual eight-year-olds. Letters on the field were tried at a real practice and did not land. Left and right were tried and did not hold. A play checker rejects geometry a kid cannot run, before it ever reaches a tablet.
